  1. Arranging proper circumstances for calm abiding meditation

      1. Confidence or faith in the benefits of calm abiding
      2. Aspiration
      3. Joyous effort
      4. Pliancy, serviceability of body and mind
      5. Mindfulness
      6. Introspective alertness
      7. Application of appropriate antidotes
      8. Equanimity
    3. Nine stages in practicing calm abiding
      1. Setting (placing) the mind
      2. Continuous setting
      3. Resetting
      4. Close setting
      5. Taming
      6. Pacification
      7. Thorough pacification
      8. Single pointedness
      9. Setting in equipoise
    4. Six mental powers to attain these stages
      1. Hearing
      2. Thinking
      3. Mindfulness
      4. Introspective alertness
      5. Effort
      6. Familiarity
    5. Four engagements to employ to do this
      1. Painstaking (forceful)
      2. Repeated (interrupted)
      3. Uninterrupted
      4. Effortless (spontaneous)
    6. Way to develop actual calm abiding from this
